Black Ponyskin Biker Jacket Topman London Fashion Week Autumn Winter 2012 Menswear

Ok so it’s a blurry shot from my iPhone, but for me this jacket was one of the highlights of a great Topman show. I’ll review the rest once I’ve sorted out my photos including the fact myself and Style Cupid, had a great view to admire the always tasty Mr David Gandy!

In the meantime here is the beautiful ponyskin biker jacket, I immediately tweeted about! I love it.

Client Jacket

After the great giveaway, and indeed a little before I’m loving Client.

I want this coat, or indeed anything with this embroidery. Brilliant! Keep an eye on this brand they will undoubtedly go from strength to strength.

clientlondon:

This is the French army Jacket - ‘Remade in Britain”. I discovered this jacket whilst on tour and my friend Ingrid suggested that I could add embroidery on the back to make it “Client” and I asked a Berlin illustrator to come up with a design that was both rock and roll and Client…I love the way the microphone lead wraps around the wrists - so much so that I have now used this for most of the Client designs- on T-shirts,bags and embroidered in bright neons inside the Great Grey and Nato Strict coats..

Attention to Detail // Menswear // Pocket

Pcket detail // Bainser Menswear Style Blog

So much love for this right now. Often when desiging for clients I’m asked to produce something that’s the same as last season but different. Yep that’s my brief same but different. This takes that up a notch. Tragically this kind of wild and crazy design would put many off buying the jacket. This saddens me. Men we should be championing things like this.

Same but different is not enough!

New, interesting and exciting, even if it’s a pocket flap most definitely is.

It’s the Littlest Things - Cuffs

Thanks to thestylebuff for bringing this little gem to my attention. As most people know by now I get over excited by small details on suits. Without a doubt they are what make menswear so extraordinary and special. It’s personal luxury. You know it, those in the know know it. The rest? Well, they don’t need to know, and if they’re interested they’ll ask.

Yes it’s elitest, but I don’t care. Every tribe has its own markers and signifiers. These are mine.

In America these are called surgeons cuffs, alledgedly a functioning cuff allowed a surgeon to unbutton and roll back his sleeve before delving into an operation. I suspect this is a bit of a fallacy but it is most certainly a nice story.

Nowadays a functioning cuff is a sign of expense and time taken to produce a better quality garment. Many gents when wearing them will deliberately unbutton the last button on either cuff to show off this fact. A tailoring version of the masons handshake if you will.

But above all I love the way the buttons have been sown on here. Not a simple cross, or two parallel lines, actual thought has been taken in every step of producing this garment. Every minutia thought of, it has been designed from collar to cuff.

How to buy a Leather Jacket….

Vintage feel motorcycle leather jacket. Not your traditional biker jacket I’ll grant you. This belongs more on the back of classic Triumph than a Ducati. But you catch my drift. I know, I know, it’s not a Burberry. I feel like I’m cheating on a lover but you’ve got to love this jacket.

The trouble with leather jackets is they have no middle ground. They are either hot or conjure up the worst set of images. From limp and whiny goths (by the way I still think when that look works, it can be incredible), to Matrix rejects via a horrific gauntlet 80s boyband members and ill fitting dad jackets. So how do you make the right choice?

Here’s a few pointers….

1) Pay more than you thought - save up a bit of cash, this jacket will be with you for a long time. Better make it worth it.

2) Think about your personal style and where you think its going to head. - Like I said this jacket should be with you a long while. Something super directional may be cool now, but will date quickly. Be classic but with a personal twist.

3) Biker/Aviator/Tailored/Bomber/Letterman - all are classics that will come in and out of vogue. But if you’ve paid attention to hint 2, this should never be a problem. It’s about you and your jacket.

4) Don’t complain that your new leather is a bit stiff. It will be. It’s your job to soften it up be wearing it.

5) Just because the jacket is going to be with you a long time, don’t be like a parent buying new school uniforms on the large size. It is not your aim to grow into it. You’re already a grown up. It’s your job to keep trim, that or blame the evils of a clothes shrinking wardrobe.

6) ENJOY your purchase! Do not fret about the odd spill in a pub, wear the hell out of it. With a bit of wear you’re jacket will only look better.

Right in saying that get shopping!

Seersucker is summerweight cloth that normally conjures up Colonel Saunders and the deep south. True Blood but without the cool vampires and (non)gratuitous nudity. But not here. Look at this deep navy, its practically midnight blue. The seersucker creates a greater sense of depth and colour.
More importantly the chance of someone else rocking up to any summer event and outdressing you in this is practically impossible. And by this I mean don’t go to any weddings, the bride in all her glory will not appreciate you outshining her. This may be too much as a full suit so team with matching trousers. Spend a long time match the colour in sunlight and shop light though.
If it’s a more casual event this will look amazing with a pair of slightly faded indigo jeans. You know the slightly beaten look they get after about 6 months and a couple of washes. Perfect!

This summer has seen quite a bit of double denim happening. Devils plaything or a trend that needs exploring more the decision is up to you. However the need for a great jean jacket in everyones wardrobe cannot be disputed.
I practically cried when some evil doer perloined my favourite shearling lined denim jacket a while back. Yes I may have been somewhat under the influence but that is no excuse to relieve me of a great jacket (though I do commend the thief on their good taste).
Also having grown up splitting my time between town and country I have a deep and long love affair for Barbours and the Aussie equivalent Driza-Bone. (Completely weather beaten please, none of this clean and shiny rubbish thanks).
So naturally a marriage of the two is going to please me no end. This Levi jacket is great. The more you wear it the better it’ll fit you and the more personality it’ll have. The cloth will withstand almost anything.
Growing up new Barbours were treated with scorn. I just cant see myself in one. So I’d be tempted to take it out to a muddy field and drive over it a couple of times (preferably with a feck off big Land Rover), then drag it around a bit to ‘distress’ it*. Madness but definitely worth it.
This was lifted from a US site so am not sure when the jacket will be coming this side of the Atlantic, but keep an eye out.
If you find it give me a call and I’ll help you distress it, though I somehow doubt running a micro-scooter over it in the middle of Hoxton will have quite the desired effect. But its the best I can offer.
