Tuesday Want // Bottega Veneta // Mr Porter

New arrivals email from good oul Mr Porter drops into the inbox and what do I see but this beauty from Bottega! Now to hunt around for a spare £260 to spoil myself. That or get my good friend to let me ‘borrow’ one from the store you know for the great publicity etc I would give it on during the summer season.

I will however ignore the just in Hunters! I have (misplaced) faith the current sunshine will hold!

Leather laptop case // Bainser Menswear Blog

Bags, satchels, murses, whatever you want to call them men’s bags have come a long way since Joey was ridiculed for his manbag. We are still a long way from the cavernous and treacherous realms of women’s bags. Some of which have a TARDIS like quality I’m sure. Mary Poppin’s bag wasn’t magical, believe I’ve seen the contents of some friends bags!

As men carry more and more the murse is going to continue as a trend. Personally I’m a huge huge fan of knomo. Their bags are clean, very well made and not overly priced. Born out of needing a laptop bag unlike the hideous creatures sold in PC stores. I mean who on earth designs those! Yes I would love to spend a fortune on a laptop then shove it in bag which will make me look as though I got lost somewhere between physics and double accountancy. This morning I saw two gentleman in sharp(ish) suits on the tube, brandishing these monstrosities. I believe the brand is Targus. I practically wept! Besides the hideous nature of these bags they scream ‘Look at me I have a laptop! Mug me!’.

Thank everything that is Prada and lovely for knomo and the likes of above.

knomo have since branched out into covers for iPhones, Gym bags, luggage. I may soon be expanding my collection.

I find luggage particularly difficult to buy, until I can splash out on Goyard that is. So in the meantime I’m going to have to make do with hunting down the beauty above. It’s simple and easy, and I’m sure my MacBook will fit in there very snuggly indeed. Wins all round!

How to buy a Leather Jacket….

Vintage feel motorcycle leather jacket. Not your traditional biker jacket I’ll grant you. This belongs more on the back of classic Triumph than a Ducati. But you catch my drift. I know, I know, it’s not a Burberry. I feel like I’m cheating on a lover but you’ve got to love this jacket.

The trouble with leather jackets is they have no middle ground. They are either hot or conjure up the worst set of images. From limp and whiny goths (by the way I still think when that look works, it can be incredible), to Matrix rejects via a horrific gauntlet 80s boyband members and ill fitting dad jackets. So how do you make the right choice?

Here’s a few pointers….

1) Pay more than you thought - save up a bit of cash, this jacket will be with you for a long time. Better make it worth it.

2) Think about your personal style and where you think its going to head. - Like I said this jacket should be with you a long while. Something super directional may be cool now, but will date quickly. Be classic but with a personal twist.

3) Biker/Aviator/Tailored/Bomber/Letterman - all are classics that will come in and out of vogue. But if you’ve paid attention to hint 2, this should never be a problem. It’s about you and your jacket.

4) Don’t complain that your new leather is a bit stiff. It will be. It’s your job to soften it up be wearing it.

5) Just because the jacket is going to be with you a long time, don’t be like a parent buying new school uniforms on the large size. It is not your aim to grow into it. You’re already a grown up. It’s your job to keep trim, that or blame the evils of a clothes shrinking wardrobe.

6) ENJOY your purchase! Do not fret about the odd spill in a pub, wear the hell out of it. With a bit of wear you’re jacket will only look better.

Right in saying that get shopping!

So I’ve rabbited on recently about a return to the subtle, to the days of the a small black triangle, two small interlocked C’s and not much else. Harping on about how it’s better to have an understated glamour. The discrete signs to those in the know.
And then there’s this. As subtle as the dying breath of a celebrities career on ITV primetime.
Thing is this actually goes along with everything I’ve been saying. No it’s not subtle, no it’s not understated, but it’s the exception that breaks the rule. To lug this beauty round the streets you need to be sure of yourself. Oh and probably have an eye in the back of your head to make sure someone doesn’t liberate it from your possession.
This bag also looks like the perfect size for a weekend jaunt or city break. In fact its brilliantly sized for a trip to the gym, but I wouldn’t recommend unless you happen to get sweaty in The Third Space.
Subtle is great, but sometimes you just need to smack someone in the mouth and let them know you’re right. Metaphorically of course. I’m a lover not a fighter after all.
