Jimmy Choo // AW12 // P*rno Camo

If you’ve even the most passing interest in menswear, and you checked out the photos of Pitti then the explosion of camo as a trend can not have escaped your attention. Now I don’t know what it is about the current economic woes or more that seems to be making editors and tastemakers flock to this, but I’m loving it. Is it a desire to hide away? Or perhaps an attempt to butch it up and tough it all out like a brave little soldier? Who knows?

Jimmy Choo for Autumn Winter is certainly embracing it, with Bond-esque pinup silhouettes in varying shades of olive, and chocolate making a print that is likely to get you noticed. It covers shoes, bags, wallets and scarves. I love it!

Chesam - Shiny Calf Flannel - Jimmy Choo

But what of the rest of the collection? Well every range has grown or been tweaked. With core ranges evolving and shapes being nudged a bit more rounded here, a tassel removed there, it’s without a doubt still an exciting range before you even get into any kind of naked lady camouflage. With printed ponyskin, mixes of flannels and fabrics, and more I really loved the collection.

Sloane - Printed Pony - Jimmy Choo

Now I wont lie to you and say I’d buy it all, frankly there is no way I would have the nerve to attempt the Jimi Hendrix inspired python looks. This isn’t that I don’t love them, far from it, I’m just not brave enough. You however should be. No really you should, the boots are fantastic!

I am a complete lover of quality craftsmanship and having felt the suede on the below shoe I’m in love! I also adore how is coloured on the inside and therefore the seams. Brilliant way of adding a flash of bright to a winter look.

There is of course more, so much more to the range, trainers, biker boots (also having major wants for these!) bags (the lust level goes without saying on these). The fact the lovely ladies at Jimmy Choo furnished me with coffee on a freezing Milano day did nothing to dissuade me of course, but I really can not wait for these to drop in store. And as for the scarf well it’s been a long time a naked lady was drapped around my neck if I’m honest but for Jimmy I’ll make an exception.

Dolce & Gabbana // Milan Fashion Week // La Bella Estate

Last weekend I was in Paris for a friends birthday, this weekend I’m off to Milan. Having been invited by Dolce & Gabbana to attend their show I swiftly gave myself an early Christmas and booked flights and hotel for the weekend. This morning my inbox announced the arrival of this little beauty. So that’ll be my Saturday evening in Milan sorted. Having been inspired by the show I’ll now be tripping the light fantastic at “La Bella Estate” into the night.

So if this is how 2012 is going to start, I hope the upward climb from here is as much fun! To say I’m excited is an understatement. Move over little John Lewis boy there’s someone else too excited to count down the days. But worry not readers I will of course be tweeting, instagramming and more for the whole weekend, so you shall not miss out a single thing.

I’m also very impressed that the invite cunningly deleted all the necessary deets when I downloaded it. This is a very private party, so no sharing for gatecrashers. I best remember to write everything down before I arrive!

Now I just need to figure out what I’m going to wear???

Milan Menswear // Dolce & Gabbana // Handpicked // Thanks

Dolce & Gabbana // Mario Vivianco

It is without doubt exciting times this Christmas at Bainser.com HQ, (that sounds like I have some swanky office my MacBook on my lap isn’t quite as glamorous if more truthful). Over the last two years I’ve ranted and raved about Menswear. The rights and wrongs, I’ve gone to fashion shows, fallen in love with styling details, interviewed some inspiring individuals such as Nick Wooster, partied, nearly been gobbed on by a model (at the Child of Jago show) and doled out sartorial advice, all in all its happy times.

But 2012 is the time to move it on, so I’ve happily joined the Handpicked Media stable and look forward to working with everyone there. Following this 2012 is starting on a high, my first visit to a fashion week outside of London. I’ve graciously been invited to attend Dolce & Gabbana’s show and I couldnt book my flights soon enough! That’s all done now and I’m counting down the days. I’ll be in Milan for the 14th and 15th Jan so if any other PRs would be even remotely interested in squeezing me in to their shows please let me know. As corny as it is I want to say thanks to the likes of Melanie Rickey & Lee Kynaston who have been great mentors and givers of advice in the last six months to really get things moving.

Enough about me though, scroll back up and check out this great shot by the very talented Mariano Vivanco. This is his first Dolce & Gabbana campaign (though not the first time he’s worked with the house) and it stars a whole bevvy of Italian filmstars. If some brands are about music, Dolce & Gabbana is certainly all about the glamour of the Italian screen. The innate beauty in this shot is wonderful. Having a Maltese grandmother this kind of Mediterranean family scene reminds me of home. You know this family may feud like a Kardashian in front of reality TV camera but they’re loyal to a fault.

Neil Barrett // Spring Summer 2012 // WANT!!

Neil Barrett // Spring Summer 2012 // Bainser Menswear Style Blog

So the month of menswear madness of Pitti, Milan, then Paris has begun. I could easily spend the next two months covering everything. The street style of the fash pack at Pitti has been incredible and inspiring. Several shows in Milan have been live streamed which I genuinely can’t get enough of.

But this is the first piece I have seen that has gotten me a little bit over excited. Its amazing and I want it now!! Two tone trenches aren’t new and have been bobbing around for the past few seasons in both Menswear and Womenswear. But this someone still looks fresh. Love it!

What no menswear reviews?

What with both Milan and Paris menswear weeks now a distant memory in fashion terms (3 weeks ago), some of you may well be wondering why no reviews? I mean after all this is a menswear blog isn’t it?

Well they shall be coming soon enough. Work has been a bit hectic of late, and this season I’m going to spread the reviews out over a longer period. I may have immersed myself in the utter madness of fashion month but you need not. That and New York Fashion week has only just finished and London doesnt start until Friday. Just sit back relax and let me cherry pick the most amazing collections over the next few weeks and months. Just in time for them to hit the store, and you to max out the credit credit cards.

In the meantime I’ll leave you with this little gem from Gant by Michael Bastian just off the runway in New York

Vivienne Westwood.
A great anarchic colelction from the queen of punk herself. Despite the allusions to Zoolander in the press, and wondering if possibly homelessness is a little too close to the bone for inspiration, I think this collection at least the parts I’ve seen is  seriously hot. Sure I probably wouldnt style it up exactly as on the runway, (and who does anyway) but it had some great pieces. Like this jacket for one, and the guy in the braces is wearing a gorgeous double breasted waistcoat.

Emporio Armani

Ok I’ll admit it, my brain is fried!! As well as getting the last hwoever many posts up this afternoon, I’ve also been super busy at work and v productive too I may add. But now I’ve discovered a friend of mine has passed her Phd so I’m off to the pub to celebrate. I dont feel I’m doing Senor Armani a disservice here as quite clearly the clothes can speak for themselves. They are clever, beautiful, young, trend driven. Everything you’d wish from the line.

Tomorrow as they say is another day and I stiil have McQueen et al to review, and Paris starts tomorrow. Most of which I’ll get round to over the weekend.

Prada

Hailed by many as the show of the week, Miuccia wowed the fashion glitterati from the moment they walked through the door. The clothes themselves were as ever fantastic, eschewing everyone else trends Prada stood out alone with a preppy collection. However, summing it up in such a brief term doesnt do the collection justice. Everything was played with, changed turned on its head, from the silhouette, to the fabrication as well as scale and returned back to us in a way we hadnt thought of but couldnt believe we missed.

Jil Sander

If I’m blunt I can often take or leave Jil Sander, sacrilege I know but at least I’m honest. Minimalism, despite cool sleek likes and undisputed beauty can sometimes leave me feeling cold.

This season however, the quirky yet cool shape details on the front of jackets and coats really sparked my interest. The soft corners and oval shapes were pleasing and presented a new and different form of closure. Drawing the eye to the shoulder or the waist the clothes drew us in to the wearer in a way rarely seen. Layering a very low fine gauge v neck over a jacket created a new aesthetic, and feature out of the lapel roll.

Maybe ostentation isnt all its cracked up to be?

Ermenegildo Zegna

In a see of charcoal, greys, blacks and blues a spot of colour looks ever more vibrant. This season The Sartorialist picked up on green as a major trend in Pitti just a week ago in Florence and it seems Zegna definitely had their ear to the ground as green appeared in several places in this collection. As ever this classic Italian house showed impeccable tailoring that sums up the Italian sense of style, with a dash of the Tyrol thrown in for good measure.

Costume National

I really enjoyed this collection, despite the wild furry arms in places large parts were incredibly wearable. Whilst drawstring trousers may not be to everyones cup of tea, the fact remains these clothes were pushing the boundary of suits and sometimes that needs to be done. Not only that but I can see these being picked up by the more directional high st brands and deseminated among the hipsters of London pretty sharpish. Using tailoring fabric in an unconvential way will always be hugely subversive but in this case it works well.

Trussardi 1911

Clearly I have been some kind of fashion ostrich with my head in the sand as Trussardi 1911, have only hit my fashion radar last season. Needless to say I’m in love! Buy it for me now please!

For me this collection hits all the trends being evoked this season. Masculinity, ruggedness and military. But it does so whilst simultaneously exuding a warm luxury through the colour palette and high quality fabrication.
