AW11 Menswear - Edun

Edun, founded by Ali Hewson (wife of rockstar everyone loves to hate Bono) is a label with very strong ethical credentials. With a styling similar to Reiss 1979 on the high street this label has continued to grow at a steady pace since its inception. Designer Sharon Wachoub is currently at the helm and is continuing the slightly grungy feel of the menswear collection whilst introducing some more tailored elements.

The look and feel of Edun will never totally escape it’s rock heritage, and this is a good thing. I’ve long said about fair trade clothing that it fails in its very first goal. Not to be ethical but to actually be fashionable. Regardless of the treatment of workers, the organic cotton used, or the whole brand image people will not buy ugly clothes at this price point.

I’m no fan of the drop crotched trouser and they are evident throughout the collection, as is a pair of dungarees. Frankly the less said about them the better. Those wanting to know more should buy me cocktail and sit back, the rant will no doubt veer off into the evils of Uggs and Crocs. They are after all on a par.

Right I love this coat, the check is a great size and not too in your face. Its double breasted with a nice high collar. Super warm and super stylish.

Great denim jacket and shirt. Carrot trousers aren’t forgiving and makes many people myself included look as though they have a bad dose of incontinence and are wearing adult diapers. If they look good on you, go for it! Otherwise the colour and single pleat work well.

This whole look is fantastic! Like a combination of ski lodge and bin man. Nope I never thought I’d say that either but there you go.

The tailoring is a bit too soft for my liking but in a casual way works quite well.

Edun is available on net-a-porter, so I’m presuming it will arrive at Mr Porter too, as well as their own website. In the UK & Ireland they are stock in a few stores in London, Bury St Edmunds, Dublin & Dundalk.

If you want to learn more about them they are on @twedun, Facebook and have a tumblr. A chatty and interactive team across the platforms but the tumblr is effectively an online inspiration board for the team, and worth a look.

What no menswear reviews?

What with both Milan and Paris menswear weeks now a distant memory in fashion terms (3 weeks ago), some of you may well be wondering why no reviews? I mean after all this is a menswear blog isn’t it?

Well they shall be coming soon enough. Work has been a bit hectic of late, and this season I’m going to spread the reviews out over a longer period. I may have immersed myself in the utter madness of fashion month but you need not. That and New York Fashion week has only just finished and London doesnt start until Friday. Just sit back relax and let me cherry pick the most amazing collections over the next few weeks and months. Just in time for them to hit the store, and you to max out the credit credit cards.

In the meantime I’ll leave you with this little gem from Gant by Michael Bastian just off the runway in New York

High St Shop to Watch - Pull & Bear

Check it out, if you don’t know of it already Pull and Bear are set to take a chunk of H&Ms business this year. Should you find yourself on Oxford St, this store is a cheap and on trend destination (So long as you don’t mind bludgeoning several irritating language students out of your way)

Coming from the Inditex group, including Bershka and Zara, Pull and Bears buying power is vast, creating some very competitive prices. But so far with only 4 stores in the UK you’ll be guaranteed a degree of exclusivity Topman, H&M can not provide. In fact with their rapid expansion not even Hollister can provide this anymore.

The look is young and trend driven, the cut is similar. So be prepared to maybe go up a size. Though should P&B’s sizing be like their sisters stores it’ll be pot luck on what you actually need. The changing room is an essential facility in all Inditex stores I’ve found, having been simultaneously a Small and an Xtra-Large in one shopping trip.
